Library Assistant

The Culture and Leisure Department is responsible for a rich cultural and sports life and a diverse range of leisure activities in Södertälje Municipality. The department manages libraries, the arts school, art hall, Youth Leisure, sports facilities, Torekällberg, and outdoor life.

The libraries in Södertälje consist of two units: Area Libraries, which include Hovsjö Library; district libraries in Enhörna, Järna, Hölö, and Mölnbo; and the Book Bus.

For us, the libraries are a place for literature and culture and should be an open and safe meeting place for all citizens.

Your Responsibilities

From autumn onwards, the libraries will extend their opening hours and are therefore looking for you who want to work extra. The need will be primarily on weekends.

As a Library Assistant, you will receive a thorough introduction to ensure you feel confident in your role. The introduction consists of an overview of our library system (Quria), our operations, and practical days with supervisors at the respective libraries.

As a Library Assistant, our visitors are your focus, and your responsibilities include:

• Staffing the information desk.
• Answering simple questions.
• Shelving books and general tidiness in the premises.
• Ensuring the library is a safe place where visitors enjoy themselves.

You will always work together with experienced staff.

Requirements:

• Completed upper secondary education with a focus that the employer deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
• Basic IT skills (digital aids such as mobile phone and computer, internet search engines, paper printing, etc.) to be able to help our visitors with simple matters in a pedagogical way.

Merits:

• Experience in service occupations involving supporting, guiding, or helping people, or other experience that the employer deems equivalent.
• Additional language skills (in addition to Swedish).
• Experience working in a library.

The workplace can be one or more of the municipality's libraries: Järna, Hölö, Mölnbo, Enhörna, Hovsjö, or the City Library.

Public transport is available to most libraries, but for positions in Hölö, access to a car is recommended.
